DESCRIPTION: EPW - Gaudron a Paris, early oignon style verge fusee alarm watch, 55mm, silver OF original consular case pierced for sound transmission, shuttered rear apertures for winding fusee and for winding alarm, silver champleve dial with inner brass alarm chapter, gilt mvt with two-footed pierced and foliate scrolled balance bridge, four arm balance wheel with hairspring, no s# visible. Brian Loomes "Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World" lists an Antoine Gaudron of Paris as active circa 1675 to 1689 and also lists a Pierre Gaudron of Paris as active circa 1690 to 1730.
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, ticks briefly after prodding but stops frequently, occasionally tests with good alarm function but occasionally with alarm not activating, overhaul needed, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered scratches and fine scratches; excellent dial; excellent hour hand and alarm hand; case shows light to medium wear, some scratches and fine scratches, mild to moderate dent to right perimeter of rear among pierced detail, few scattered nicks or small dings, engraving detail with even reduction, hinge is missing its lowest knuckle; bow pivots freely; domed glass crystal with few small scratches and with a finish imperfection toward lower right perimeter.
